1998 Cappezzana "Ghiaie della Furba" Toscana
The ultraripe tannins of this wine are so soft, it would be no shame to think, for a moment, that it is a '97. Leather and bitter dark-chocolate aromas lead into flavors of sour black plums, cocoa and coffee grounds. Despite this wine's softness, it should age well on its level of fruit concentration and firm acidity.
Lots of interesting fruit, smoke and chocolate aromas. Medium body. Light tannins. Light finish. Best after 2000.
Located in Carmignano since at least the 9th century, Cappezzana ventured into Super Tuscan territory in 1979 with this wine, that initially was a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties. The 1998 edition saw the first Syrah added to the mix.
