2010 Moulin de la Gardette "Ventabren" Gigondas
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Vivid ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, star anise and potpourri, with a mineral overtone. Juicy and precise, with impressively clear red fruit and floral pastille flavors. Suave and seamless in texture, finishing tangy, focused and very long, with only a whisper of tannins.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This classic, old style 2010 Gigondas Ventabren comes from a 5-acre parcel of 30-60-year-old vines, and is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault, all aged in small, old oak barrels. It reveals a lighter color than some of its peers in addition to a sexy, open-knit, evolved bouquet of kirsch liqueur, licorice, roasted herbs and loamy soil. Plush and velvety textured with ripe tannin as well as a full-bodied mouthfeel, it will offer delicious drinking now and over the next 7-8 years. (90+)
Sweet and spicy on the nose with quite a bit of vitality and no sign of wood. Really energetic and healthy. Very distinctive. All the play is on fruit. (17/20 points)
