2012 Feytit-Clinet, Pomerol (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1130136 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel, which gives the wine a sexy, up-front, well-integrated wood component to accompany its black raspberry, black currant and flowery notes. The wine possesses remarkable intensity, a full-bodied richness and terrific purity. It appears to be one of the superstars of the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. (4/2013)

92-93 points James Suckling

This is gorgeous with beautiful blueberry, raspberries and chocolate character. Full body, with velvety tannins. Excellent depth and beauty. (4/2013)

88-90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Medium ruby-red. Initially bound-up on the nose, but a whiff of oak blew off to reveal spicy aromas of dark cherry, musky blackberry and coffee. Then more blackberry, coffee and cocoa on the simple, clean palate. Begins fairly dry but finishes sweeter and more supple, with moderate length. This 6.1-hectare vineyard is situated between Trotanoy and Latour a Pomerol across the road in the lower Clinet sector of the Pomerol appellation. (6/2013)

K&L Notes

Praise from Robert Parker: "Possibly the finest wine Feytit Clinet has yet produced (even superior to their remarkable 2008, 2009 and 2010), this property is an exclusivity of Jeffrey M. Davies Signature Selections. Cropped at an absurdly low 21 hectoliters per hectare, the final blend was 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The alcohol level hit 14.1%, which is nearly up there with the 2010 and 2009."

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.
