2012 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

SKU #1129361 89 points Wine Enthusiast

Colomé regularly makes one of Argentina's best Torrontés. This vintage is fresh on the nose, with tropical leanings and lychee aromas. The palate offers pointed acidity and lively flavors of passion fruit, lychee and citrus. This finishes crisp and juicy, but not sizzling or sharp. (8/2013)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

It has a very similar bouquet to the 2011, although the palate is much fresher and vibrant with subtle Conference pear and bruised apple notes towards the finish. It is simple, but refreshing. Drink now. (10/2012)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Very pale yellow. Subtly spicy aromas of lemon and grapefruit peel, flowers and mint. Juicy, dry and firm-edged, with spice and floral notes and a bit of unabsorbed CO2 contributing cut and lift. Ultimately a wine of modest material and length for this label. The clean finish features lingering, slightly tart citrus, mint and spice notes. The summer of 2012 brought heavy rainfall in the Colome area, said winemaker Thibaut Delmotte, and production of torrontes was lower than in past years. (4/2013)

Wine Spectator

Elegant and aromatic, with a chalky edge to the Meyer Lemon, tangerine and floral notes. Drink now. (9/2013)

K&L Notes

Fresh, versatile, and budget-worthy, this Torrentes comes all the way from Argentina via current owners, Napa's Hess Collection. If you're curious about Argentina's signature white wine, try this well-vetted example. 90 points, the Tasting Panel: "Silky and smooth with lovely spice, tangy acidity, graceful balance and seamless structure. Long and delicious." (Anthony Dias Blue)

- Argentina is regarded as one of the most dynamic wine-producing nations in the world, and possibly the most important wine-producing region in South America. Only four countries in the world produce more wine than Argentina. Considerable investments (much of which has come from famous French, Italian and California wine producers) have been made in new vineyards and winemaking technology in the past several years, which along with recent plantings of more premium varieties of grapes, has made Argentina much more competitive internationally. The Mendoza region is the most important region in Argentina's wine industry. And Malbec, among other Bordeaux varietals grown here, reigns supreme.
