2012 Cave de Tavel "Lauzeraies" Tavel

SKU #1127972

Rejoice Tavel! In a time when very high quality rosés line our shelves, when pink wines from Spain, the US, South Africa, Italy and all over the land of France are finally getting some much-deserved attention in the press and from our customers, we must give Tavel its special due. This is the original rosé appellation. In fact, so good is the fabled rosé from Tavel, that by law no other sort of wine can call itself Tavel! Layers of wild strawberries collide with a spicy note, a dash of citrusy acidity and so much fruit and flower aroma, it is almost too much. But then, when paired with foods of the region--fish soups, black olives, rosemary scented meats and poultry, anything combining eggplant and tomatoes--well, it is not too much at all. No, it is darn near perfect. 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault, 10% Mourvedre. 13.5% abv.

Tavel is one of the classic French rosés, from one of the rare appellations which make rosé exclusively. The 2012 Cave de Tavel "Lauzeraies" Tavel represents our best price on this versatile wine. Possessed of a lively minerality and a profusion of red fruits, this Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Mourvedre produces a hearty style of wine which makes Tavel the perfect rosé to bridge the warm days of summer and the cooler days of autumn.

This bold and beefy rosé is the perfect wine to pair with all of your BBQ and grill fare this season. Dry, but chock full of deep red fruit flavors and nuance, the Cave de Tavel fashions France's most famous pink wine with admirable balance and a super price quality ratio. Bring on those burgers!

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
