1999 Paolo Scavino "Cannubi" Barolo
The 1999 Barolo Cannubi wraps around the palate with serious depth. Texturally, the 1999 is impeccable, but at the same time, it is also incredibly powerful and rich to the point of not being particularly expressive to site. Tar, smoke, mocha and black fruit are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. The influence of French oak is felt more strongly here than in any other of the 1999s. I imagine the Cannubi will enjoy at least another decade of fine drinking.

Full, deep red. Superripe aromas of cherry liqueur, mocha, licorice and camphor. Reticent in the mouth but already floral and perfumed; has a silky texture with perfectly embedded acids. Still a bit tight on the back end, but the very long, firmly tannic finish is captivatingly floral and fine. (ST)
Displays wonderful aromas of strawberry, flowers and new wood. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and pretty fruit. Just beginning to be drinkable. Give it two or three hours of decanting.—'99 Piedmont blind retrospective (2009). Drink now through 2019. (Web Only—2009)
