2011 Étoile du Rhône (Stéphane Vedeau) Côtes du Rhône (Previously $11)

SKU #1124535

Étoile du Rhône was created by three friends who share a passion for the wines of the Rhône Valley: Stephen Cronk, Tom Warner and winemaker Stéphane Vedeau. The grapes come from around the village of Courthézon, where the soil is composed of large pebbles. Each varietal is vinified and matured separately in traditional concrete vats for at least eight months. Composed of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, the 2011 Étoile has loads of crushed red berry fruit, light spice, fine tannins and lively acidity. Enjoy now and over the next several years with all manner of Mediterranean-inspired fare! 14.5% abv.

The Etoile is simple, well-made wine, which would be just perfect for dressing up the dinner a bit! Easy, juicy, with structure; just pleasurable.

One of our best selling Côtes du Rhônes is back! The 2011 Etoile is true to form, reflecting the brighter acidity and more zippy nature of the vintage. Cranberries, hibsicus and bright cherry nuances are framed by bright acidity and fine, fine tannins. I love this wine with a slice of cheese and Fra'Mani salami!

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
