2006 Alvear Fino en Rama Montilla-Moriles (500ml)

SKU #1116560

Attention all lovers of manzanilla and fino! This is a rare treat from a terrific producer based in the Montilla Moriles D.O., outside the Sherry triangle in geography but not in spirit. As in Jerez or Sanlucar, the vines are grown in very chalky soil, and the ageing still takes place underneath a veil of flor. The main differences are that the grape used in Montilla-Moriles is Pedro Ximenez (fermented to dryness) and the location is a few hundred kilometers to the northeast, within the province of Cordoba. Fino "en rama" means unfiltered; same as our popular Equipo Navazos "I Think" and Tio Pepe en Rama bottlings. Also, this is indeed a vintage dated fino, the first of its kind. On the nose, one can definitely catch the rich, saline, savory flor notes, as well as a strong whiff of clean clay. The palate is full-bodied, showing a wonderful balance between fruit and nutty, savory complexity. For yet further proof that good fino does indeed improve with bottle age, drink this bottle.
