2011 Calera Central Coast Chardonnay (Previously 18)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Calera's 2011 Chardonnay Central Coast is super-impressive, especially for the money. A textured, inviting wine, the 2011 boasts gorgeous depth and tons of finesse. Deeply expressive varietal notes wrap around the creamy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
Made in a more popular style than Calera’s Mt. Harlan bottling, this Chard features lush flavors of pineapple and orange jam, honey and vanilla. The acidity is bright and mouthwatering.
Subtle flavors of pure green apple, honeydew and hazelnut show a dash of smoke. A delightful wine. Drink now through 2017.
A cool vintage in 2011 has been flattering for many white wines in California. Calera's Central Coast Chardonnay was sourced from select vineyards mostly spanning Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. The wine spent 10 months in 10% new French oak before bottling. From the winemaker: "This 2011 Central Coast Chardonnay has a lot of personality; a rich bouquet of peach pie and kumquats, a full mouthful of flavor with ripe stone fruit, bright Bartlett pear and crème fraîche. The texture is soft, round, smooth and succulent with hints of sweet oak, and a nice, long, beckoning finish."
