2011 M. Chapoutier "Les Vignes de Bila-Haut" Côtes-du-Roussillon Villages

SKU #1114700

Domaine de Bila-Haut is a relatively new project from famed Rhône Valley vigneron Michel Chapoutier, composed of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan grown in the schist soils of Roussillon in the village of Latour-de-France. Plots for this cuvee are located on the slopes of the high Agly Valley, where the altitude helps to preserve the acidity that is sometimes lacking in other reds from the south of France. The crop is hand-harvested and the wine is aged in vats before being bottled. A deep garnet color introuces aromas of black cherry and a fleshy palate with plenty of fruit highlighing the rugged mineral of the Roussillon. The 2010 vintage received a "Best Value" designation with 90 points from Wine Spectator. Clearly not bad for $13!
