Patrick Piuze is a rising star negociant in Chablis, purchasing and making wines from grapes throughout Chablis under seventeen appellations at the village, 1er Cru and Grand Cru levels. Originally from Quebec, Patrick studied winemaking in Beaune and spent his first four years thereafter at Maison Olivier Leflaive, where he managed the full line of Chablis production. He moved on to further develop his talents as a winemaker with Jean-Marie Guffens at Verget and worked several vintages with Jean-Marc Brocard before striking out on his own in 2008. Patrick's winemaking is very hands-off or "laissez faire" in style; fermentations occur naturally with indigenous yeasts and he strives for as little intervention as possible in order to facilitate the truest expression of terroir in each wine.

Just found my favorite new chablis producer! For such a new and "rising star", Patrick Piuze has already found his stride and is making incredible wines from Chablis. I've had the honor of tasting 5 of his single vineyard Chablis' and every single one is utterly impressive; it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite! The "Forets" stands out among the others due to the beautiful white floral and sweet pineapple aromatics. And while you may be tricked into thinking that this chablis is going to be elegant and femine, the palate surprises you with an integrated leesy, toasty aromatic accompanied by a palate that is so intrinsically complex and layered the flavors just never stop!

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged.
