2009 Belisario "Cambrugiano" Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva

SKU #1112458

Ranked among the finest white wines in Italy, Belisario's Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva "Cambrugiano" was the first Riservas ever produced in 1988. It is also now a DOCG (as of June 2009). From the best high-elevation vineyards to a late harvest, cold fermentation, and partial aging in barrique, this wine epitomizes Matelica's reputation for producing powerful white wines. It is aged in a combination of steel and oak barrels for one year, with an additional year of bottle age. One taste and it's all there: the hills of Italy's Marche region, the Medditerranean sun, white flowers, a hint of vanilla and pusuasive, savory character on the palate, with absolute harmony between acidity and fruit.

Classically Verdicchio- citrus notes of fresh lemon and lemon zest, white flowers and mineral with juicy, mouthwatering acidity. The 2009 vintage is not only pretty but a solid wine, with nice palate weight and the structure to stand up to food. I served the 2008 with Thanksgiving dinner, and plan to do the same this year!
