2011 Musar "Jeune" White Bekaa Valley

SKU #1109404 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2011 Musar Jeune white is a blend of 35% each of Chardonnay and Vermentino with 30% Viognier, all fermented in tank. The winery says that the vintage produced rich and high alcohol wines (relatively, listed at 13.5%). With its unusual flavor profile, a big hit of mouth-puckering lime and green apple, typical descriptors of the Vermentino asserting itself, this may not be what everyone is expecting if unfamiliar with that grape, but once you adjust your palate to it, it is awfully nice, friendly, fruity and easy, with good acidity and a clean, tasty finish. I came to like this a lot. (12/2012)

Wine Enthusiast

There’s a hint of violet perfume that permeates this dry yet honeyed wine. The palate is fruity, with abundant ripe cherry and grapefruit flavors, and layers of crushed chalk and stone lend a minerally complexity that builds on the midpalate. (4/2013)

Wine Spectator

The dried mango, apple tart and melon flavors are firm, featuring hints of richness. Caramel and buttery notes appear on the finish. Viognier, Vermentino and Chardonnay. (Web Only- 2013)

K&L Notes

Chateau Musar is the preminent wine producer in Lebanon, with something of a cult following here in the US for their reds. The Musar Jeune white is a relatively new wine in their lineup, made to showcase the grapes from the Bekaa Valley. The 2011 is composed of 35% Viognier, 35% Vermentino and 30% Chardonnay (different grapes than those found in their estate Chateau Musar white). Crisp, floral and mineral, with apple and tropical fruit flavors, this is really delicious and fun!
