2009 Raventós i Blanc Cava Brut Reserva Penedes

SKU #1108621 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2009 Reserva Brut is a blend of classic Cava varieties (40% Macabeu, 40% Xarello and 20% Parellada) from 20- to 40-year-old vines in the 90-hectare Serral Vineyard on the Raventos I Blanc Estate. It has a vibrant bouquet of peach and lemon peel complemented by a subtle, crushed stone aroma. The palate is crisp and defined on the entry, with fine poise and build in the mouth. It leads harmoniously towards a succinct rosewater and white peach finish that is fresh and tense. Drink now-2017. (4/2012)

K&L Notes

Produced from nearly 100% estate, biodynamically grown Parellada, Macabeo and Xarel-Lo, this just may be the classiest, best-made brut Cava currently on the market. From their variety of calcareous clay terroirs, to the careful harvesting and proximity of their gravity flow winery, both the quality of raw material and oenological know-how are abundant at this terrific estate. There is a very tiny dosage, less than 6g/l, and the overall impression here is of a very mineral, clearly delineated, chiseled sparkling wine that is truly first rate. When you taste this wine, you will see why some of Spain's best michelin three stars such as El Bulli and Arzak continue to feature this terrific Cava.

Pretty white flowers, citrus, clean minerality with a juicy mouthfeel. This year's bottling appears to have a slightly higher dosage than previous bottlings, but the soft sweetness is not distracting. 2009 was a warmer vintage, so this may lend some of the richness to this bottling as well. Enjoy this Cava at your next cocktail party- great for any time of year!

With a relatively higher dosage than most brut Cavas, the Raventos offers lots of beautiful aromatics, along with a creamy soft mouthfeel, along with exotic spices and crisp acidity. Excellent Cava!
