2010 Valdesil Godello "Sobre Lías" Valdeorras

SKU #1108616

There is an increasing amount of tasty, characterful Gallician white wine produced from godello grapes, a thick skinned variety that, when grown in the right conditions and properly vinified, can make very crisp and brighty, yet rich and mouthfilling wines. Valdesil is a pioneer for godello in the D.O. of Valdeorras. All vines are massale selections grown in grey slate. This bottling is a joy to drink: bright, mineral and lemon flavors show good delineation and purity. Enjoy this beauty all on its own or accompanied by some fresh seafood.

This is a new review segment for me. Grapes you need to know.Godello is the white grape here, has enormous inherent acidity and hence the wines are fresh and lively with a long lasting citrus quality. The finish gives that minerality that I love so much from Spanish whites! Where is it from? Valdeorras, a small (3,300-acre) and up and coming appellation in Spain’s northwest. This is another great grilled seafood wine.

Other White Wines

- With more land under vine than any other country in the world, Spain is the great sleeping wine giant. In recent years, a great deal of money and passion has been poured in the burgeoning Spanish wine industry, helping to improve quality among its vast array of wines from sparkling Cava to Sherry to Rioja Gran Reserva. The most important red-wine-producing regions are Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Navarra in the north and Priorat and Penedes in the northeast.
