2006 Tassi "Franci" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Franci is striking. The 2006 Franci impresses for its delineation, class and sheer vibrancy. Mint, licorice and floral notes add complexity to the expressive fruit in this fabulous, classy Brunello. I am not sure what Fabio Tassi did to reach this unprecedented level of quality, but it worked. This is easily the best wine I have ever tasted from Tassi. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. Fabio Tassi is best known as the owner of Enoteca la Fortezza, the wine shop located in Montalcino’s castle. A few years ago Tassi started making wine on his own, steadily making improvements along the way. The Tassi Brunelli are distinguished for their overt fruit and easy approachability.
Blackberries, plums and rosewood aromas, follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and dried fruit character. Milk chocolate notes. Delicious finish. A joy to drink now.
This unique expression of Sangiovese Grosso is influenced by oak tones to produce aromas of Spanish cedar and sandalwood, giving the bouquet a rich personality. Bold fruit tones of cherry and blackberry also come into focus, and the wine is surprisingly firm in the mouth. — M.L.
