 Hazy, pale chartreuse color. An exotically perfumed nose displays heady aromas of citrus and orchard fruits, minerals, nougat and dried flowers, with a slow-mounting saffron quality. Deep, weighty pear and Meyer lemon flavors are underscored by smoky mineral and lees notes, which gain power with aeration. Smooth, spherical and strikingly persistent on the very long finish, which repeats the floral and smoky notes.  (6/2009)

Sir Peter Michael founded his winery in 1982 in Knight's Valley. After hiring Helen Turley as winemaker in 1987, the label rose to the upper echelons of cult recognition and the rest is history. Sourced from Peter Michael's estate vineyard, Cuvee Indigene is blended by the winemaker with the intent of expressing the simultaneous power and finesse that Chardonnay can possess. It is selected from the best barrels of Old Wente clone.
