 High on the delciousness-factor, this shows soft, seemingly sweet flavors of raspberry, cinnamon, smoky butter, sugar cookie and vanilla. It's a little one dimensional, but that dimension is a nice one. Drink now.  (12/2012)

Artezin's 2010 Mendocino County is sustainably farmed by select family-owned vineyards along the ridgelines and benchlands of Ukiah Valley. Aromas of red and black berries with pepper and baking spices introduce a supple, jammy palate reverberating the pepper note. Second and third use French oak keeps the focus on the fruit and the food-friendly, bright structure. A blend of 89% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, and 1% Carignan finish the wine from this vastly underrated Zinfandel-producing region.

I love this Artezin Zinfandel! Classic varietal, fruit-forward, old vine, yummy zin! Plus in Wine Spectator's Advance for the June 15th issue this lovely Zinfandel was singled out as a SMART BUY!! Perfect for anything you want to throw on the grill!

Without a doubt one of the best California Zins I've had for under $20! Its a superb balance of juicy ripe fruit with spice and acidity that makes your mouth water! Definitely my pick for any summer BBQ I will be attending!

- The bid to name Zinfandel California's "State Varietal" may have failed, but this red wine grape, grown extensively in California since the mid-1800s, is grown in few other places in the world. Sadly, much of what's cultivated today is planted where it's too hot and flat. But when planted to well-drained, hillside vineyards that are warm but not too hot, like those in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley and Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, Zinfandel can produce wines with plenty of character. High in natural alcohol and tannin, grown carefully it can be rich and complex, with dark fruit berry fruit and peppery spice. The most known example of Zinfandel outside of California is Italy's Primitivo, which can be similar in style, but is often a bit lighter and less alcoholic than West Coast examples.
