2011 Apaltagua Rosé Central Valley

A Carmenere-based rosé, clearly the grapes have been picked a bit earlier to preserve acidity, though somehow the strong, tell tale herbaceous quality of this grape variety is barely present. Instead, this beautifully colored, light pink hued rosé shows bright red fruits, with terrific acidity and just the barest hint of herbaceous traits towards the finish (if anything, this adds some intrigue and balance to the wine). This is a very well made rosé - not a simple strawberry/watermelon/bubble yum bomb of a rosé - and it is sure to be one of the classier dry style rosés of the season. This carmenere-based rose brings a freshness to the lineup of 50+ roses we have here in Redwood City. My notes from our staff tasting say "Lean & Clean", which sums this up pretty darn well! Cranberry, strawberry, mineral with a subtle savory note in the mid-palate. Medium-plus acid makes this a zesty, fun alternative to your favorite Provencal roses!
