2002 Lanson "Gold Label" Vintage Brut Champagne
Balanced and delicious, this is rich, full in the mouth, packed with both white and citrus fruits and with secondary flavors of almonds, toast and baked bread. It is poised generously between the fresh and mature ...

Vivid yellow. Intense aromas of Meyer lemon, pear skin, honeysuckle, toasty lees and iodine, with a bright mineral quality adding lift and focus. Rich yet lively and precise, offering an array of fresh citrus and orchard fruit flavors that fill out and deepen with air. Closes on a smoky note, with excellent clarity and length and building florality. I really like the marriage of power and vivacity here.
A smoke-tinged powerhouse, with a minerally undertow and firm acidity, offering refined texture and a subtle range of ground spice, ripe plum, whole-grain toast, crystallized honey and candied lemon zest notes. The creamy finish shows a hint of savory fleur de sel. Drink now through 2027.
This Champagne is composed of 53% Pinot Noir and 47% Chardonnay, both entirely from Grand Cru sites. Because Lanson never allows the wines to go through malo, this is a spectacularly fresh 11 year old that has lots of flowery Chardonnay character as the savory Pinot Noir side has yet to fully develop. This will be a spectacular bottle for the future if you can resist its ample charms right now. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
