2010 La Vinyeta "Heus" Negre Empordá

SKU #1088809 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

(51% samso, 20% garnatxa negre, 19% syrah and 10% merlot): Bright red. Redcurrant and cherry on the incisive, spicy nose. A dry, tightly wound lightweight that shows good clarity to its nervy red fruit character. Finishes on a note of bitter cherry, with good clarity and lingering spiciness. (10/2011)

K&L Notes

In relatively high altitude vineyards located on the rugged Catalan coast north of Barcelona (Dali, in fact, lived not too far from here), La Vinyeta cultivates a variety of vines, in addition to running a fully operational farm, with the rare Catalunya government "producción integrada" certification. A blend of Samso (Carignane), Garnatxa Negre, Syrah and Merlot, the wine is all juicy plums and dark cherries. Clean and fruit forward, with moderate tannins, this is an ideal glass to enjoy on its own or with a casual weekday meal--cooked sausage (in Catalan, a butifarra) or a burger would work quite nicely.
