2002 Quinta das Maias Jaen Dao

SKU #1086752

According to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 06: "Medium ruby. High-toned aromas of oak spice and red berries, with a hint of licorice candy. Taut and firm, with fresh, herb-laced cherry flavor and a note of tangy bitter chocolate. Finishes solid, with fine-grained tannins, and flavors of cherry pit and exotic oak spice." Jaen is the same grape as mencía across the border in Spain. It really excels in schist and granitic soils, as this example shows. Earthy, sweet red fruited aromas lead to a palate displaying a lovely interplay between cherry, earth, mineral and emerging tertiary notes
