2009 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2009 Doisy-Vedrines exceeded my expectations under blind conditions. It is usually seen as a less refined Barsac predisposed to richness and viscosity, but the 2009 exudes far more tension and elegance than I anticipated. It has a perfumed, floral bouquet with scents of dried honey, melted wax, lemon curd and a touch of lemon thyme. It is beautifully defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with beautiful balance and precision. There is real grace and tension in this Sauternes: very focused and precise though with patently a lot of botrytis towards the mellifluous finish. This is a wonderful Doisy-Vedrines. Drink now-2035+
Richly layered and detailed, but thoroughly mouthwatering, this lets lacy citrus, floral and white peach flavors meld into a core of quince, fig and persimmon fruit, while warm piecrust and honey roasted almond notes drive through the finish. Very long, with superb cut despite its power. Best from 2015 through 2032.

Deep yellow-gold. Knockout nose offers sweet banana, peach, flowers, citrus, mango and plenty of spicy botrytis. Very rich, ripe and smooth, this very sweet and full Sauternes displays uncommon depth and concentration to its flavors of ripe apricot, pineapple and spices. In the typically lush and sweet style of this estate's best vintages. Finishes focused and long, with hints of apple cider and peach nectar. One of the most refined, layered and balanced versions of Dosiy-Vedrines I recall at a similar stage of development.
Quite closed up, this wine has weight and intensity that will give concentration to the potentially ripe flavors of apricots, mandarin oranges and a twist of lemon zest. All of these flavors are integrated with the developing honeyed richness.
Thick and fruity with creme brulee and honey, with dried fruit character. Full body, very sweet and round with a long finish. Better in 2015.
Light gold. Rich and round and lively. Some zest as well as great weight. Good stuff!
*1/2 Fabulous acidity. This displays less sweetness than the Daëne. Focused. Ralph: Elegant, with lemon-honey notes.
