2008 Bodegas y Viñedos Ponce "PF" Manchuela

SKU #1078217 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2008 P.F. is also 100% Bobal from 60- and 95-year-old ungrafted vineyards (pie franco, hence the name of the wine). The alcoholic fermentation is whole cluster with ML in barrel followed by 16-18 months in cask. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers greater aromatic complexity with scents of damp earth, crushed stone, Asian spices, incense, black cherry, and plum. Dense and structured on the palate with ample savory fruit, it will require 2-3 years of cellaring and will then provide a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2020. (4/2010)

K&L Notes

Produced from a 110 year old parcel of bobal planted in sand, this wine has all the intensity of the La Casilla bottling, with a bit more of a black olive pungency and salty minerality to it. A very intriguing wine from one of Spain's most exciting winemakers. Try this with braised lamb.
