 Vivid gold. Pungent, mineral and herb-accented aromas of dried pit fruits, mango, honey and lemon curd. A smoky note comes up with air, along with a hint of anise. Then dusty, dry and sappy on the palate, with impressive intensity to the flavors of ripe orchard fruits, citrus peel and licorice. Finishes firm-edged and stony, with excellent persistence. A serious, soil-driven white wine that was raised in all neutral oak.  (12/2010)

 The flagship 2009 Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc is 62% Roussanne, 26% Grenache Blanc and 12% Picpoul Blanc. It reveals lovely delineation, freshness and verve. Scents of white peaches, flowers, minerals come together beautifully on the layered finish. The 2009 Esprit has lovely vibrancy for the vintage, mostly owing to the inclusion of 12% Picpoul, which adds much needed acidity. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.Tablas Creek was founded as a partnership between Chateau de Beaucastel in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Robert Haas, owner of Beaucastel’s US importer, Vineyard Brands. Tablas Creek is one of the pioneers for Rhone varieties in Paso Robles, not just for the quality of the wines, but just as importantly for creating a nursery of clones from Beaucastel cuttings that are now used widely throughout the region. 60% Roussane/ 35% Grenache Blanc/ 5% Picpoul Blanc makes up this years blend. This wine is very floral and rich on the nose, with plenty of dense pear, nectarine, orange zest, and apricot flavors with a nice weighty texture. Big and bold but so fresh and bright, this is a fantastic wine as always.

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
