2010 Blason Malvasia Friuli-Venezia-Giulia

SKU #1068456

17.5/20 points Decanter: "This aromatic variety shows great freshness and typicity. Fragrant and mineral it has a delicate palate of nectarines and granny smith apples. Shows great elegance." Jan 11, 2012 Giovanni Blason and his consulting enologist Andrea Rossi have turned this 37-acre property into a juggernaut of affordable quality wines. Giovanni and his wife Valentina own this winery in Gradisca d’Inzonzo, 3.75 miles from the Slovenian border and about 20 miles north of Trieste. This white offers such intense floral aromatics, with, jasmine, elderflowers, and lime blossoms, you'd guess that there would be some correlating sweetness on the palate, but this one from Blason is absolutely dry. Great with cheese!

This wine has floral hints and touches of almond and very refreshing with intriguing aromatics, balance and a good finish. Perfect for grilled seafood and calamari.

The wines from the Blasons, which Greg St. Clair discovered ten years ago, are distinctive and delicious. This Malvasia shows wonderful aromas of lime zest, melon,Chilean jasmine and spice. In the mouth, this Gem shows amazing complexity of fruit with excellent acid structure. It is dry, mouthwatering and crisp on the finish and is just a joy to consume. Try it with shellfish, particularly crab; it is a perfect match. Eby wants this Gem to be our house white for crab season. 13% ABV (Jim Barr)
Drink from 2012 to 2015
