Chidaine's (in all but name) demi-sec 2008 Montlouis Les Tuffeaux is redolent of almond extract, white peach, and quince, subtle peach kernel as well as zesty, bright citrus helping balance the wine's residual sugar and its suggestions of honey and caramel, a balance maintained through an impressively long finish. The clarity, electricity, and infectious juiciness of the less residually sweet or botrytis-affected Chidaine 2008s are missing here, but one gains richness and while I have little doubt that this fine value will flourish for at least a decade, it is as close as this vintage comes to cuddly chez Chidaine." -DS (8/10)

Unusual and very interesting. Demi-sec? The acid is incredible and totally masks the sweetness. Macerated apples, candied citrus, and ripe white fruit. Will blossom with the right food pair.

Captivating, multidimensional, age worthy white wine at a steal of a price? Why, yes, please! Boasting flavors and aromas of bergamot, lime, honey and beeswax, quince, stone fruits, light sweet spice notes and suggestions of something rocky-stoney in back, there’s lots of interest to this engaging wine. The sweet-tart balance is a beautiful, like a taste of ripe pineapple, making it easily gulpable in the way of certain off dry German Rieslings, although caution is advised: it isn’t nearly as gentle on you if you do. If you can resist its youthful appeal, the Les Tuffeaux does seem as though it is destined to go from strength to strength and will likely show a similarly captivating adult personality down the road; I know I’ll certainly be waiting to see it.

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines.
