2009 Xavier Clua El Sola d'en Pol Terra Alta

SKU #1065747

A blend of Garnatxa, Cab, Syrah, Tempranillo and Merlot, this delicious red is generous in its display of juicy red fruit, balanced by fresh, natural acidity. Terra alta is a land dominated by co-ops churning out volumes of wines of varying quality. This estate, though, only uses their own carefully cultivated vineyards. No oak at all on this wine, just loads of character from pristine fruit, and a satisfying texture in the mouth. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish Wine Buyer)

This wine offers a pure expression of the grapes that go into the blend; Grenache, cab, syrah tempranillo and merlot. All stainless steel, it sees no oak, this wine is the perfect summer time red. A fresh note of bright red cherry greets you on the nose, while clean and pure fruit plays on the palate with lively acidity and a graceful mouth feel. There are alluring notes of fresh cracked pepper that drift in and out as well and a hint of persimmon that I am still wondering is there or not.

In recent years, a great deal of money and passion has been poured in the burgeoning Spanish wine industry, helping to improve quality among its vast array of wines from sparkling Cava to Sherry to Rioja Gran Reserva. The most important red-wine-producing regions are Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Navarra in the north and Priorat and Penedes in the northeast.
