2005 Odoardi "Savuto"

SKU #1062534

This is an outrageously delicious wine from Calabria (the "toe" of the boot that kicks Sicily) and is a kitchen sink blend of the indigionous Gagliopo, Maglioco and Greco Nero with a little Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blended in (and, I'm told, maybe another grape or two). It has loads of pretty cherry fruit, but also a crazy savory/umami nose and flavors that hint at bay leaf, fresh tilled earth, mushroom, tobacco leaf and sweet vermouth. It's soft on the palate with medium tannins, fresh acidity and just plain yuminess. Very food friendly and versitle and one of the screaming-ist deals in the store. CM, LA Italian Specialist
