Bruichladdich Octomore 5 year old Release 1.1 Islay Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (NO GIFT BOXES) (Previously 900)

SKU #1060810

Slightly dented gift tube, price discounted accordingly. Bruichladdich's peaty experiment, Octomore is named for a farm near Port Charlotte, the legendary islay distillery that was closed in 1929. Essentially, the gentlemen of Bruichladdich asked their malting house to take the peat fires to the limit. Typically barley is fired for about 1-2 day to achieve the levels seen in some of the peatier islay malts, producing phenolic levels around 40ppm. This malt is fired for as many as five days. Rumor has it that they've achieved jaw dropping phenolic levels around 300 ppm. While this is smoke enough to peel paint, Bruichladdich's first Octomore release comes in a very hefty 131.1 ppm. While the peat is certainly heady and intense, it is not totally over powering. It feels integrated -being persistantly mouthfilling, but not harsh.
