2008 Skouras St George Nemea

SKU #1059876

100% Aghiorghitiko. Fernented and macerated in stainless steel vats, aged in used French barriques for 12 months and 6 months in bottle. Fine grained tannins, intense raspberry fruit and sweet spices. The color is deep purple with ruby hues. On the nose, it is concentrated, very complex, and multi-dimensional. It reveals aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, sweet vanilla and hints of violet and smoke. On the mouth it is smooth, velvety, full bodied with very ripe tannins. The deep black fruit fills the palate and flavors of spices and smoke follow. The aftertaste is rich, long, and complex.

Made from the Aghiorghitiko grape ( St. George in English)the Skouras Nemea is a wonderful medium bodied wine. It has nice bright and expressive aromatics with berry and red fruit aromas. In the mouth it is soft and round with berry flavors and a touch of vanilla from oak. It is a new world sytle wine that has character and personality. Great with lamb.

- We have the Greeks to thank for introducing wine into Italy and France. And while the legacy of ancient Greek culture lives on, little recognition is given to its modern-day contributions to the wine industry. From the Peloponnese in the south, to Macedonia and Epirus in the north, and islands like Crete, Samos and Santorini, fine wine is once again being made and most of it from indigenous grape varieties not grown in other countries. Styles range from hearty, rustic reds to crisp, neutral whites and heavenly dessert wines. Click for a list of bestselling items from Greece.
