Michel Loriot "Selection" Extra Brut Champagne

SKU #1059511 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Pale gold. A potent, mineral-accented bouquet evokes fresh pear, quince and jasmine, complemented by dusty talc and quinine qualities. Offers deep pit and orchard fruits on the palate, along with citrus pith, anise and floral flavors and tangy minerality. The finish is juicy and long, with strong mineral cut and an echo of anise. (12/2012)

K&L Notes

This all-estate-grown Champagne is composed of 80% Meunier and 20% Chardonnay from the western valley of the Marne. It has no dosage at all and is very, very dry. Unlike many other zero dosage Champagnes that we have carried, this is not angular or overly austere. Mr. Loriot achieves this by giving the wine four years of ageing before release. It has a nose that reminds me of buttered naan bread and ripe dates, and has a gorgeous, pinpoint bead of fine streamers that spiral through the bright, straw-colored wine. It is medium-bodied Champagne that seems effortless and is very well integrated. This makes a great aperitif, but like many other zero dosage Champagnes will also make a great partner with sushi. I admit it- I'm new to the grand world of champagne. Gary Westby, champagne guru here at K&L, has begun my champagne education with a bang with this incredible Direct Import from Michel Loriot. Delicate bubble structure, delightful fruit-driven nose, continuing on the palate with a light, crisp finish. Great acidity, nice minerality. Elegant and refined, it showcases the best of champagne. Gorgeous- a must-have for celebrations and anniversaries!
