Redemption Straight Rye Whiskey (750ml)
The back label of this whiskey describes it as 'feisty,' and feisty it is! Brandishing 95% rye (another Canadian flavoring whisky that was diverted?), bottled at 46%, and at a relatively young age (around two years old), this whiskey lets you know you are alive. It’s very spicy, with crisp evergreen, warming cinnamon, clove, rooty licorice, dark chocolate, and suggestions of gin botanicals. Spicy, vibrant finish. I’m having fun drinking this au naturel (the whiskey, that is), but this would also zing in a cocktail, the same way smoky Islay whiskies make their presence known in a blended scotch. Value Pick. (Fall 2010)
This high-rye spirit (close to 95% rye) is manly and rugged, like chewing on saddle leather. Elegant, straight-edge bottle design. Golden color and medium body. Aromas evoked burnt orange peel and ripe cheeses, while the flavors were boldly oaky and bitter, with notes of tobacco, leather and black tea. Dry, short, stinging finish.
This American Straight Rye captures the essence of young rye whiskey perfectly. Boasting a mash bill with 95% rye, those classic flavors shine right through the charred American oak. Dust and earth, coupled with the spicy, zesty rye kernel softened by a touch of vanilla oakiness. Great for mixing!
