2009 Marquis de Terme, Margaux (Pre-Arrival)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Inky purple. Perfumed nose combines kirsch, licorice and violet with a pungent dusty minerality. Firm yet silky on entry, with densely packed red plum, blueberry, cedar and graphite flavors. The tannins saturate the entire mouth without coming off as hard or dry. The rising finish shows more cedar along with a hint of shoe polish. One of my four samples was strangely underripe/overripe, and another lighter but very elegant.
Barrel sample. New World in style, almost too opulent and ripe, with the wood a distraction. This is for lovers of extreme juiciness.
A bright, ripe style, with very fresh crushed plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit wrapped in silky tannins and laced with hints of anise and black tea. The rounded finish has modest grip for mid-term cellaring. Drink now through 2020.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A ripe, woodsy wine with plenty of forest floor, black currant, cherry and dusty, loamy soil notes, this wine is showing quite well, with medium to full-bodied, silky tannins and a long finish. It should certainly last for 20+ years.
*+V At UGC: Their best in a long time, perhaps ever? Super-ripe and sexy, with tons of everything, and a silky finish. Not shy. Note: Futures item. Wine will arrive late 2011 to 2013. You will be contacted for delivery instructions.
