2007 Guimaro Mencía Ribeira Sacra

SKU #1056104

We recently lucked across a small quantity of this wine, discovered in importer José Pastor's warehouse. As 2007 was a good vintage, and now has 5+ years of bottle age, now is an opportune time to check in on this bottling from benchmark Ribeira Sacra producer Pedro Rodriguez. While this is the young, tank aged bottling, I have had some surprisingly delicious encounters with other "drink 'em young" type reds, so for $15 this could well be worth a flyer!

For an "entry level village wine", this little Mencia is awesome! Because there is already some bottle age here, this Ribera Sacra has lost its super flashy, floral fruit that I usually associate with Mencia from this region. Instead, you get a beautifully ageing wine for a ridiculous price. Stewed red cherry, warm saddle leather, thyme, cranberry, and spice with medium plus acidity and fine, elegant tannin. I want to make a meaty meal, have some friends over, and toast Espana!
