Made by Sonoma wine expert Carl Sutton, this is vermouth for sipping on a warm day, not necessarily for making cocktails. The flavors are perfect for a sherry-style food pairing. Dry, the almost austere profile that manzanilla drinkers die for, but with loads of orange peel and clove spice. I have heard of the famed Sunday afternoons in Spain where locals go to their neighborhood cafe and drink dry, almost sherry-like vermouth on tap before heading off to do their weekend shopping. Go to the store, get some olives, some cheese, some bread, and a can of mixed nuts, make a buffet, and open a bottle of Sutton Cellars Vermouth. I thought this was just delicious when I first tasted it. Bright, vibrant flavors of clove, cardamon and citrus. Have it over ice with a slice of orange. Perfect for a beautiful summer day!

This Vermouth makes me happy. I lived in Madrid when I was in my early twenties and remember enjoying this style of vermouth (I also remember seeing grandmothers drinking it off the tap at the cafes at 9 am in the morning - the Spanish are the true party people). Anyway, here we have a cross between spiced cider in the nose and bone dry sherry on the palate. The all-purpose wine that never goes bad and just gets better the more oxidized it becomes.
