(10/08) Maligny/Églantière's extensive holdings are all east-facing sites on steep hillsides, and the Fourchaume vineyard is the closest Premier Cru vineyard to the Grands Cru in Chablis. When I tasted this wine, I could see why Allen Meadows rated it "Sweet spot outstanding!" It has all the wet stone and oyster shell notes on the nose that I look for in classic Chablis, with no oak, to accompany a perfect crab or shellfish dinner. This is has a long, mineral-driven and refreshing finish. On the palate it is so rich it seems almost to have Corton or Grand Cru weight, but the Chablis minerality is unmistakable.
