2006 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)
*#99 on The Enthusiast 100 list of 2011* With this wine, Dolce cements its status as California’s most consistently great dessert wine. This year’s blend is 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and the grapes were infected with the botrytis, resulting in the fantastic sweetness. Devastating in apricot, orange, pear, honey, vanilla and créme brûlée flavors, in an unctuous, viscous texture, with wonderfully clean acidity, it’s certainly one of the greatest sweet California wines in memory.
Sweetness. Like the most sinful dessert in liquid form, Dolce, from the folks at Far Niente, satisfies our craving for sweetness with some hidden surprises. A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the foggy town of Coombsville, east of Napa, the Dolce is Napa's Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its earthy, botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. Wonderfully food-friendly, this will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, cheeses, chocolate or creme brulee. Or cellar and watch the wine evolve. (Late Harvest Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc).
