2006 Viña Robles "Signature" Paso Robles Red Blend (Previously $28.99)

SKU #1052227

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Softly tannic and creamy, and bone dry, with black and red cherry, red currant, cinnamon, cocoa, bacon, black pepper and violet notes that have a pleasantly bitter bite on the finish. This complex wine gets better as it breathes in the glass. It's a blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah." (9/30/2009) And, according to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid purple. Blackberry and singed plum on the nose, with notes of dried flowers and black pepper adding complexity. Juicy, vaguely jammy dark berry flavors are braced by a tangy mineral quality and framed by dusty tannins. Packs a serious punch but carries no excess fat. Finishes with good grip and an echo of tangy dark berry skin." (Nov/Dec '09) The Signature is a wine I have been looking for for a long time. It is difficult to find a Petit Verdot that is a high quality wine at a reasonable price. The Vina Robles Signature is that wine. A very dark purple color emerges from the bottle and the nose is full of plum, black pepper and a hint of vanilla. The fruit explodes in the mouth with a beautiful streak of minerality. The tannins are big but fairly lush. This is a wine for now but will hold for a couple of years. (Mike Jordan, K&L Wine Merchants)

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
