Baron-Fuenté "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne (375ml)
Light gold. Fresh melon, orange and peach on the fruity nose and in the mouth. Supple and broad on the palate, showing a hint of warmth on the back half. In an easygoing style, finishig with gentle cut and good length. (JR)
With a high proportion of Pinot Meunier in the blend, this is ripe, warm, and accessible. Fresh apple and ripe pear flavors are cut by grapefruit acidity. The texture is soft, ripe and very ready to drink.
A firm bead and lively acidity structure this broad bubbly, with tightly knit flavors of white raspberry, candied lemon zest, pickled ginger and salted almond.
This is a delicious little half bottle! Baron Fuente is a negociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many negociants buy "sur lattes" - meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Pinot Meunier and had been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold temperatures in stainless steel with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine has a very light, white gold color for the blend, predominantly black grapes, and a very pretty, tight bead. On the nose it is flowery and exotic, with a doughy richness to anchor down the wildflower elements. On the palate the wine is well balanced, light, and finishes very cleanly. This Champagne is a spectacular aperitif. The current batch is 60% 2005 vintage, 30% 2004, and 10% 2003 and dosed at 10 grams per liter. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
