The NV Extra-Dry Carte Blanche is based on the Brut Premier, but receives a higher dosage of 16 grams per liter. Even though the Carte Blanche naturally shows a bit more sweetness than the Brut Premier it also maintains considerable focus and energy. Here the expression of fruit tends towards brighter, more floral white fruits, green apples/pears. The wine’s balance and length are first rate. This is Lot # L033633C101132. (roughly 55% pinot noir, 35% chardonnay and 10% pinot meunier; L036010D100191): Light, bright gold. Aromas of pear and peach nectar, honey and white flowers, with a subtle yeasty undertone. Plush and expansive on the palate, offering pliant pit fruit flavors and a touch of tangerine. Plenty sweet but vibrant acidity adds delineation and finishing lift. This deeply flavored, fruit-driven Champagne would work wonderfully with intensely flavored cheeses or spicy Asian seafood or poultry dishes.
A firm backbone of acidity balances this lightly smoky version, which shows flavors of candied almond, raspberry pâte de fruit and baked peach. Creamy and mouthwatering. Drink now through 2015. (Web Only-2013)
Despite its description as 'extra dry,' this is in fact sweeter than a brut. This is fresh and fruity, with an attractive apple-purée flavor, balanced by crisp acidity and a light, bright finish.
Extra Dry Champagnes are actually given more sugar than Brut Champagnes, up to 17 grams per liter. The blend is one-third Chardonnay and two-thirds Pinots (Pinot Meunier making up about 10% of the blend), and the wine is aged for three years on the lees. This is the perfect after-dinner Champagne and goes very well with fruit tarts and other delicate desserts. It is also just a great drink when you feel like something a little bit sweeter.
