The Brunet family has been a family of wine growers for eight generations, and this lengthy experience shows in this mature Chenin Blanc. Today Georges and his son Nicolas traditionally cultivate Chenin Blanc and only Chenin Blanc, respecting the vine (harvest is 100% manual) and the environment. Mature to the eye and the nose, this golden-colored beauty offers ripe pineapple and spice aromas, which are joined on the palate by still ample acidity and enviable sweetness. Just the thing for a decadent cheese selection, especially one featuring chevre with honey!

I was stunned by this wine. A marvelous nose of honey, honeycomb, jasmine blossom, crushed stones, plenty of spices that is echoed by the palate, all with a very balanced acidity. The demi-sec gives you sweetness on the front palate but ends it on a dry note and a very long honeyed finish. A mature wine indeed. A plate of aged goat cheese will pair wonderfully with it. Also some serious Chinese or Thai food, rilletes, chestnut-based desserts.

Really compelling, off-dry, aged Chenin Blanc showing remarkable balance and acidity now. If you are seeking to try something totally new and different, or are simply a fan of good, old Vouvray, this wine is the one to pick up. It offers a complex bouquet of (okay, here's where I get geeky): tire, white mushroom, orange marmalade, cinnamon and honey. The palate is rich and full, with more minerality, but echoing the nose with citrus marmalade flavors and mushroomy notes. The acidity is key here: still vibrant and fresh, supporting the residual sugar, making the finish peceptibly less sweet than you expect. Classic.

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically.
