2003 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Intense black cherry, plum, chocolate, vanilla and leafy herb aromas, with similar flavours. Chewy tannins are tight now and are likely to soften with another year in the bottle. (LM)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) possesses a sweet, jammy bouquet of black currants intermixed with barbecue smoke, tobacco, espresso, and herbs. (RP)
Complex, with a mix of creamy vanilla-tinged oak, dried currant, herb, pencil lead and sage notes that are tight and tannic, ending with a mineral and pebble aftertaste. Well-balanced. (JL)
It was a big year for Merlot and friends at Silver Oak: the 2003 Napa Valley is a blend of just 78% Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The winery's current library notes: "The 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark ruby-red color and a nose of black cherry, blackberry and violets. It has a complex fruity attack, an elegant mid-palate and a long moderately tannic finish. This wine will continue to improve to 2024, given proper cellaring."
