2004 Martinelli "Jackass Vineyard" Russian River Valley Zinfandel
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Deep ruby-red. Sappy, vinous, liqueur-like nose offers complex scents of cherry, forest floor and fresh herbs. Dense, large-scaled and creamy, with terrific fruit building slowly and inexorably. Fully ripe tannins give shape to this huge wine. A superb Zinfandel, offering much better retention of primary fruit than the 2003 model.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Martinelli’s Zindfandel is a rich, high-octane wine of considerable intensity, fragrance, and richness. The 2004 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (690 cases) offers copious quantities of espresso roast, overripe figs, coffee, cola, strawberry and cherry jam, a hint of mincemeat and spice box, and a monstrously rich, full-bodied palate that just oozes fruit, glycerin, and alcohol.
