J Vineyards "Cuvée 20" Russian River Sparkling Wine
For a large-production sparkler made from an almost 50-50 split of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, a dollop of Pinot Meunier blended in, this is impressive, dry and refreshing in acidity. Flavors of stone fruit, apple and almond linger on the palate, balanced by a distinct layering of fresh-squeezed citrus, from orange to lime. (VB)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The least expensive sparkling is their NV Cuvée 20, a non-vintage blend made from 50% Chardonnay, 49% Pinot Noir and the rest Pinot Meunier. Crisp notes of red delicious apple skins, brioche and white currants are fresh and lively, in a medium-bodied style that is relatively dry and has good effervescence. (RP)
A splashy Brut created to celebrate J's 20th anniversary, the J Cuvée 20 is an assemblage from the winery's best cool-climate vineyard sites in the Russian River Valley. Lemon zest, honeysuckle and faintly yeasty aromas dominate the nose, with crisp apple and tart grapefruit underpinning the palate. Light toast, caramel and almond flavors round out the mid-palate. There's balanced acidity and fruit on the finish. An excellent display of depth and complexity, proving that J's still got it after 20+ years. 1.40% residual sugar. 50% Chardonnay, 49% Pinot Noir and 1% Pinot Meunier. 12.5% abv.
