Talisker 30 year old Isle of Skye Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
The nosing passes find scents of sea breeze, kippers, brine, leather, barley malt, light oakiness and tannin. Palate entry is dry at first then opens up with succulent tastes of smoked trout, green peppercorn and sea salt; midpalate is oily, salty, oaky sweet with some bitterness to balance the sweetness. Ends lean, sweet and delicious.
As part of a rebranding of the entire Talisker range, Diageo has brought its Special Releases 25 and 30 year old cask strength expressions into the full-time fold, reduced in strength to 45.8%. Sweet and buttery on the nose; soft fruits and fragrant malt, milk chocolate, and dry, crumbling peat. Citrus fruits (notably lemon), licorice sticks, black pepper, and scorched wood on the palate. Dry and oaky in the lengthy finish, with peat notes and allspice to the end. (Vol. 21, #3)
"Mild and unusually fruity, fading quickly into lush seaweed with charred sticks. Becoming soft and very slightly waxy or creamy, like fudge. The smoke is immediate and dry with creamy oak. Almond milk and light, sweet stone fruits emerge, joined by a trace of salt. Long, gently warming, with a lingering maritime aftertaste and just a white pepper tingle on the tongue in place of that chilli ‘catch'." -- Talisker Notes
