Fleury Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne (375ml)
(100% Pinot Noir; 9 g/l dosage; disgorged on November 7, 2013): Bright yellow. Mineral-accented redcurrant and blood orange scents are complicated by smoky minerals and dried rose. Chewy and tightly focused, offering bitter citrus pith and red berry flavors and a touch of toasted brioche. Shows very good clarity and lift on the taut, energetic finish, leaving smoky mineral and floral notes behind. (JR)
Allen Meadows - Burghound
A relatively deeply pitched nose that is heavy on the yeast with light notes of strawberry and raspberry and introduces rich, full and complex flavors that offer plenty of depth in a more rounded style on the crisp and dry but not racy finish. This will best please those who want a fuller style Champagne that is basically ready to drink now even though it could easily be enjoyably held for a few years. Good quality here.
This is a real deal Champagne from Courteron, a village in the Aube department of Champagne, closer to Chablis than the city of Reims! Their methods are as Burgundian as is their location. And they practice biodynamic farming methods. The assemblage of several Pinot Noir vines from different years results in a very expressive and intense Champagne. Fruity and delicate, this very elegant and long-lasting Champagne is classic, smooth and quite rich in style. Mr. Fleury's obsession with quality shows through in the wine; it is the most exciting all-Pinot Noir Blanc de Noir in our stock. The dosage is very low--one of the driest Champagnes we have--with a wonderful black cherry fruit quality that reminds us that it is all Pinot! It is long and refreshing and very well balanced.
