1999 Whitehall Lane "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright medium ruby. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant, violet and powdered chocolate. Bright, spicy flavors of currant, currant leaf and spices, with a sweet, creamy quality in the middle. Finishes with dusty, fairly ripe tannins.
Complex, with a mix of earth, mineral, dried currant, leather and dusty, cedary oak. Full-bodied and youthful, this is a bit drying on the finish, yet drinking very well. (Web-2009)
A beautiful (big) bottle of terrific Napa Valley Cabernet from a great vintage, aged to perfection in magnum format. Wine Spectator's James Laube notes in the publication's 1999 California Cabernet Retrospective that "the 1999 California Cabernet vintage was a great success when it was realeased, delivering many of that decade's best wines. Now 10 years old, the top Cabernets of that harvest have, for the most part, aged the way wine lovers who cellared them hoped they would; time has worked to their advantage." (11/2009) Out of magnum, this is drinking beautifully now.
