Pierre Moncuit "Cuvée Pierre Moncuit-Delos" Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

SKU #100237 93 points Wine & Spirits

From estate parcels in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, all 2010 fruit, this is a lively young blend with purity and clarity of expression. As it opens in the glass, it reveals delicate scents of apple blossoms, zesty pear-skin greenness and a pale integration of mineral acidity that makes it refreshing and delicious. The dosage is a little aggressive, but it’s there to mellow the fierceness of the acidity, the wine likely best four or five years from release. (12/2014)

Pale gold. Complex, expansive bouquet evokes candied citrus fruits, pear nectar, beeswax and jasmine, with a bright mineral flourish adding vivacity. On the palate, vibrant orchard and citrus fruit flavors flesh out and deepen with air while maintaining vivacity. The floral quality repeats on the finish, which shows superb clarity and lift and lingering stoniness. (JR) (1/2015)

This a tight and mineral wine from Mesnil-sur-Oger in the heart of the Côte des Blancs of Champagne. It’s still youthful, fresh and crisp, with lemon and tangy citrus flavors. The lively character will certainly round out in 5–6 years. (5/2013)

90 points Wine Spectator

A fresh and creamy version, with a citrusy overtone to the subtle palate of biscuit, golden currant, smoke and slivered almond. Mouthwatering, presenting a lingering savory finish. Disgorged April 2013. Drink now through 2019. (11/2014)

K&L Notes

This all Grand Cru, all estate-grown Champagne is composed exclusively from Chardonnay. Nicole Moncuit has been making the wine here since 1977 and uses all stainless steel for the vinification and full malolactic. The average age of the vines at the property is 30 years old, which is much older than the average in Champagne.

This wine has a big nose that is Meursault like in its scale but without the oak. I found it full of ripe fruit and fragrant wild flowers. On the palate it is dry and cutting on the back end but full and ripe up front. This all Mesnil, all estate Champagne really shows its class on the finish, which is very, very long for its low price. So good!
