Franck Bonville Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne (375ml)
From the heartland of Chardonnay in Champagne comes this rich, creamy, apple-flavored wine. It has lively acidity, balanced with some sweetness from the dosage. It has weight and a crisp aftertaste.
Lightly creamy, with pretty violet and smoke notes winding through the biscuit and lemon meringue flavors. This is subtle, featuring well-integrated acidity and a supple structure overall. Easy to like.
100% Chardonnay from Oger, Cramant and Avize. From a 50-ha estate. Olivier Bonville is the third generation to make wine here. Super-clean fresh nose, smells like a health scrub. Vigorous mousse. Crisp edges and a creamy middle, streaked with verbena. More green than lemon, and just slightly sour. Quite weighty and substantial yet with a cutting edge, like prow of a ship. (Good Value)

Pale gold. Bright citrus and green apple aromas, with deeper nuances of honey and sweet butter in the background. Pliant and gently toasty, with juicy orchard fruit and floral flavors lifted by smooth mineral and spice qualities. Taut and nervy on the finish, which repeats the mineral note.
Half bottles of Champagne are a terrific thing to have on hand, but nothing suffers worse from poor storage. These bottles come straight from Bonville in Avize to our air-conditioned warehouse on a refrigerated container—it does not get any fresher! The direct pricing doesn't hurt, either! All of the fruit comes from the Bonville's own vineyards in the marvelous Grand Cru of Avize. It is all Chardonnay blended from three sensational years: 2007, 2006 & 2005. This Champagne has exotic, ripe fruit aromatics and as the glass warms up there are also traces of clean clay and earth, just like in a great Chablis. On the palate this Champagne has great fruit and a wonderful, full texture. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
